FAQ

Questions diaspora Nigerians actually ask

Straight answers on cost, setup, land, and how your money is protected. If the answer here is not enough, book a call and ask directly.

Setting up the business

No. Every stage is handled remotely. We coordinate CAC incorporation, tax registration, NRBVN enrolment and bank account opening on the ground in Nigeria, and you approve each step from wherever you live. Most clients never travel for setup.

Yes. Nigeria permits 100 percent foreign ownership in most sectors. A non citizen company needs a minimum issued share capital of 100 million naira, at least 2 directors, a verifiable physical address, NIPC registration and a Business Permit from the Ministry of Interior.

The Discovery assessment takes 2 weeks. The Build package takes 8 to 10 weeks from start to an operating business. Build + Launch Premium takes 12 to 16 weeks because it includes hiring, licensing and first customer acquisition.

The Non Resident Bank Verification Number lets Nigerians abroad get a BVN remotely, without flying home. It launched in May 2025 and takes about 72 hours. You need it to open and operate Nigerian bank accounts from overseas.

The e-CCI is your legal proof that money entered Nigeria as foreign investment. Your bank issues it when capital arrives through an authorised dealer. Without it you may not be able to repatriate profits or dividends later. Ask for it at the time of transfer, not afterwards.

Cost and packages

Counseal packages run from $750 for a feasibility assessment to $5,500 for full market entry. The Build package is $2,500. Ongoing oversight starts at $500 a month. Government and vendor costs are separate, client owned, and disbursed against milestones.

No. The package price is the Counseal fee. Your operating capital stays yours and is disbursed against approved milestones with verified receipts. Keeping the two separate is deliberate, and it is how you retain control of your own money.

Then that is the recommendation, and it is worth the fee. Finding out an idea does not work for $750 is considerably cheaper than finding out after you have committed setup capital and 3 months.

Three months. That is long enough for the reporting to prove itself and short enough that you are not trapped if it does not. Tiers run from $500 a month for oversight only to $1,500 for a dedicated fractional operations coordinator.

Trust, money and accountability

You cannot hold a relative accountable without damaging the relationship, and that is why diaspora money disappears. Counseal is a paid, independent operator with a published rate card, verified receipts and monthly reconciliation. If we underperform, you fire us.

Your capital stays yours and moves only against an approved milestone. We verify the work or goods first, share the receipt within 24 hours, then release payment. No disbursement happens without your approval and our independent verification.

Every disbursement is backed by a third party invoice or receipt, shared within 24 hours of payment. Physical assets and activity are documented with dated photo and video. Monthly figures reconcile in both USD and NGN at the rate of the month.

We never hold pooled funds, and capital moves only against milestones you approve after we verify the work. Spend is documented, reconciled monthly and auditable. Our incentive is the recurring retainer, which only continues if the reporting holds up.

A financial review covering P&L, cash position and outstanding payables in USD and NGN, photo and video documentation of the business, a milestone disbursement log, a 60 minute call, and a quarterly business review document.

Your retainer includes same day escalation and resolution on the ground within 24 to 48 hours. A named coordinator owns the issue, and what happened appears in your monthly report with supporting documents.

Property and land

Check the Certificate of Occupancy and confirm Governor's Consent on any prior transfer, then run an independent search at the state land registry. Never rely on documents supplied only by the seller or agent. Verify before any money moves.

Not outright. Under the Land Use Act all land is vested in the state governor, so what you acquire is a right of occupancy, usually for 99 years. Non Nigerians can hold that right, and transfers need Governor's Consent to be valid.

Getting started

A 20 minute conversation about what you want to build, your capital and timeline, and what has been blocking you. You get an honest recommendation on where to start, including when the honest answer is that Counseal is not the right fit.

Two things: the income the business would have generated, and the setup you will pay for later anyway at a higher naira cost. An idle property compounds it further, losing potential rental or short let income every month it sits empty.

Still deciding?

Run the numbers first. See what waiting has cost you so far, then decide whether this year is the year.
